about baharan
baharan
Baharan is a village about 90km from Kolkata. This is an old village having its existence of more than 1200 years. This is close to Karnasubarna (two stations ahead of Salar, a business town in Murshidabad District), once the capital of Rar Bangla – East and West part of Ganges.
It is said that Adiyasur, the king of Rar Bangla decided to bring five Kayasthas from Uttar Pradesh and wanted them to settle in his territory. Purushatam, one of the five Kayasthas was given the lease of Baharan and they are the original residents of Baharan.
Someshwar, another kayastha – received Joyjan, a village near Kundi in Murshidabad as a gift. Our family belongs to this family of Someshwar and we are infact original resident of of Joyjan, Murshidabad.
It was Shri Padmalochan Ghosh of the 23rd Generation who migrated from Joyjan to Baharan and started his family.
